An Egyptologist's Guide to Egypt
Egypt revealed by our Expert Guide, Khaled Lofty
What is so special about Egypt as a destination?
We have wonderful things in Egypt that no one else has— incredible archaeological sites and the wonders of the ancient world. Egypt is a very safe country for visitors, and Egyptians are renowned for their hospitality, delicious food, great sense of humour and, of course, wonderful weather for most of the year.
Travelmarvel Tour Directors are all qualified Egyptologists. Why is this important for our guests touring Egypt?
Having someone with a deep understanding of Egypt leading the tour makes everything easier. Our guests are always asking questions at dinner about what they have seen during the day, so it’s great that the Tour Director is an Egyptologist who can give thorough answers and satisfy guests’ curiosity. Having someone deeply passionate about the country and its history adds great value and spirit to the tour.
What experiences do Travelmarvel guests enjoy the most?
I believe visiting the Pyramids, cruising the Nile, exploring the Valley of the Kings and, of course, now the Grand Egyptian Museum are among the highlights.
What fun fact do you enjoy sharing with guests?
The intricacies of Cairo’s traffic and culture!
What are the benefits of a guided tour?
On a guided tour, guests can relax and enjoy every minute of their time, knowing all the details are taken care of.
What is the best part of your job?
The best part of my job is the farewell dinner, when I see the big smiles on everyone’s faces reflecting how much they enjoyed the tour, often describing it as unforgettable. Many are already planning another trip with Travelmarvel and are eager to recommend the Egypt tour to their friends.
What Egyptian food should guests try?
We usually taste many different kinds of Egyptian food; however, koshari is a traditional Egyptian vegetarian dish that everyone should try.
Do you have any fond memories from your time with guests on tour?
I have so many stories and fond memories I could easily write a book! One thing I like to do is create a short play about the gods of Ancient Egypt and have the whole group participate. Guests love to get involved and often keep their characters names throughout the tour, which is a lot of fun.
Is this Egypt tour suitable for solo travellers?
Yes, without a doubt this tour is great for solo travellers. Once the tour starts, it feels like one big family travelling together.
