Australia's leading value river cruise operator expands its European fleet with the launch of its fourth state-of-the-art river ship
Travelmarvel today announced the inaugural sailing of its newest European river ship, the Travelmarvel Rigel, departing Amsterdam on 30 June 2026 on the classic European Gems Amsterdam to Budapest itinerary. The launch marks another milestone in Travelmarvel's continued investment in the future of river cruising and cements its position as one of the most modern fleets operating on Europe's iconic waterways.
The Rigel joins sister ships Polaris, Capella and Vega on the Rhine, Main and Danube, completing a fleet that is entirely custom-designed and built to the same exacting standard. With a maximum of 178 passengers, 89 cabins and a crew of 44, the Rigel was purpose-built for the way today's travellers want to experience Europe, unhurried, immersive and with every detail handled, so guests can simply focus on the joy of the journey.
“The introduction of Rigel reflects Travelmarvel’s continued investment in delivering exceptional river cruise experiences. With four purpose-built ships now operating across the Rhine, Main and Danube, we’re building a fleet defined by smart design, innovation and a clear focus on the guest.” Said David Cox, CEO of The APT Travel Group. “Our priority is straightforward—creating seamless journeys that deliver outstanding value and leave guests feeling confident in their decision to travel. Rigel is a strong expression of that approach and our commitment to leading the river cruise market.” He added.
Travelmarvel has always believed that great travel should be easy, happy and genuinely good value, and the Rigel is the fullest expression of that yet. Contemporary in design and thoughtful in every detail, the ship combines state-of-the-art facilities with the kind of effortless experience that lets guests travel their way, without compromise. From the open-air Sun Deck and jacuzzi to the onboard gym, every space has been designed to maximise enjoyment on the river. Owner's Suites and French-style Balcony Suites feature electronic slide-down windows putting the ever-changing landscapes of Central Europe front and centre, on your terms.
Constellations Restaurant serves fine dining in elegant surrounds, True North Lounge offers a relaxed setting for casual meals and drinks, and McGeary's Bar brings a warm, pub-style energy to evenings on the water giving guests the freedom to choose how and where they unwind each day.
The Rigel's first departure will be marked with a sail-away party befitting the occasion. On day two of the voyage, as the Rigel sets sail for the first time, guests and crew will gather on the Sun Deck and celebrate with a ceremonial ringing of the ship's bell, a moment that signals not just the start of a journey, but the beginning of the next chapter for Travelmarvel on the river.
