Discover how Travelmarvel Product Coordinators Felicity Holt and Juwita Rihi crafted the perfect Northern Territory tour, balancing iconic highlights with the Outback’s quieter details.

When Juwita and I began shaping what would become Travelmarvel's 11-day Central Australia and Top End Discovery tour, we saw an opportunity to give guests a whole new experience of the Northern Territory. We knew our guests already love the separate journeys we offer through Central Australia and the Top End but connecting them with a flight between Alice Springs and Darwin meant missing out on some of the Territory’s truly unique moments.

After feedback from our guests backed our intuition that the journey itself mattered just as much as seeing the icons, we decided that this new itinerary would travel overland. This meant we could showcase the region’s incredibly diverse scenery while also visiting some of its more character-filled outback towns along the way, striking the perfect balance between places like Kakadu National Park and quirkier stops like Daly Waters and Aileron.

At the beginning, we looked closely at the unique highlights of the region and identified how we could offer our guests a memorable experience. Then we got into the detail to ensure the tour would unfold seamlessly, mapping out the route with careful attention to pacing, travel distances, and the balance between included experiences and free time to explore. We researched accommodation and other points of interest along the way, including a new Insider Experience to immerse our guests in outback life — a sunset barbecue in Alice Springs, followed by a night walk to spot echidnas and bilbies.

These remote destinations require careful planning to create an effortless journey for our guests. Behind the scenes, we worked closely with our Operations Team, whose on-the-ground expertise was invaluable — particularly in refining the route for our custom 4WD vehicles, the ideal way to explore the rugged Australian Outback. We also designed the tour for just 18 guests to ensure a deeply personalised and immersive experience.

For me, the most rewarding part of the process is imagining the joy that this new tour will bring our guests. Whether it’s sunrise at Uluru, meeting locals at Daly Waters Pub, or stargazing at Kings Canyon, these are the uniquely Northern Territory moments they’ll remember long after the tour is over.
